The 12th Moscow International Exhibition "HotelExpo Hotel and Restaurant Trade" was held from the 22nd to the 24th March 2009 in the Expocentr Fair Grounds at Krasnaya Presnya.
For the first time HotelExpo was held alongside MITT / Travel and Tourism exhibition, which is the third largest tourist exhibition in the world. Both events are organised by ITE, the leading exhibition company in the Russian market.
This year participants of HotelExpo included 150 companies from 8 countries Germany, Austria, France, Italy, Switzerland, Portugal, Hungary, India and Turkey.
Among Russian participants of the exhibition are such leading companies as: Norweq, Videoluxe, IKEA, Astor, Ortgraph, Laverna, Sortex-Uyut, UpTrend, ArtPlay, Aldo, Libra, Interhotel, Image Point, Miele, Avangard, iKoblenz, JohnsonDiversey, Nespresso Professional and others.
Some companies such as Interdecor, Folter and Togas were the newcomers to the exhibition. Such companies as IKEA, Videolux, Sortex-Uyut, Libra, Avangard and UpTrend have significantly increased their exposition space since last year.
During three days of the exhibition HotelExpo was attended by more than 10,000 specialists, many of which participated in the full business programme of the exhibition.
For instance, on March 23 and 24 the Congress Centre of the Expocentr hosted International conference "Hotel business: new benchmarks new milestones" which aroused keen interest of specialists.
Participants of the conference discussed critical issues of the industry: features of state and municipal regulation of the hospitality industry; application of international experience while developing an efficient hotel mechanism; peculiarities of the development and operation of the Russian hotel chain market; key types of hotel enterprises and their features.
Panel discussion dedicated to the topic of "Architectural project and design project as important components of hotel project success" took place on the 24th March. This event was attended by representatives of the Union of Moscow Architects, Guild of Architects and Interior Designers and Centre of New Construction Technologies.
The III Culinary Contest "Star Olympus" among teams representing restaurants of hotels was held alongside the exhibition. This Contest was organised jointly by ITE and Moscow Culinary Association. âåðñèÿ äëÿ ïå÷àòè
Participating teams offered to the competent jury an exclusive three-course dinner of their restaurants served for 10 persons. The second stage of the contest featured presentation of buffet-style served food. The judges assessed design, presentation and table layout, restaurant menu and creativity in demonstrating corporate style.
The Jury of the Contest was represented by the recognized chefs of the best hotels of Moscow: Andrey Komarov, Chef of National Hotel restaurant, James Portrashing, Chef of Sheraton Palace Hotel, Ludmila Bukina, Chef-Confectioner of Golden Ring Hotel, Peters Erwin, Chef of Golden Apple Boutique Hotel, Joli Guillaume, Chef of Holiday Inn Lesnaya Hotel and others.
Grand-Prix of the contest Crystal Stars were granted to Mariott Tverskaya Hotel (the captain of the team su-chef Alexander Kutepov).
According to the results of the contest winners were awarded with crystal stelas, diplomas and prizes from sponsors.
Exclusive dinner: the 1st place Yar Restaurant, Sovetskiy Hotel, the 2nd place Admiral Club, the 3rd place Yubileyny GK, Yaroslavl.
Buffet: The 1st place Swissotel Krasnye Kholmy, the 2nd place Domodedovo Aerotel, the 3rd place Astoriya 1.
The best dessert award from the sponsor of the contest, Nespresso Professional, was presented to Marriott Tverskaya Hotel and Concerto Restaurant of Swissotel Krasnye Kholmy. The team of Astoria 1 hotel was marked with distinction Grand Prix of Moscow Culinary Association.
Technical partners of the contest were: Electrolux Professional having provided modern equipment for the teams' workplaces, GenLeks having provided dishes and tableware, and Terminus company which decorated tables with tablecloths and table-napkins and provided uniform.
The III Open Academy Specialty Coffee Prize Contest of Barmen-Barista opened on the 22nd March. The Contest comprised the following nominations: Espresso, Scotch coffee and Author's coffee cocktail. The judges assessed the taste, serving and presentation of coffee drinks. The Jury comprised certified SCAE judges, representatives of authoritative Moscow coffee-houses and specialised magazines. Participants of the contest were barmen-barista from Moscow and the regions. .
The III Open Academy Specialty Coffee Prize Contest of Barmen-Barista was held within the exhibition with the participation of Barmen Association of Russia.
The Contest comprised three nominations: Espresso, Scotch coffee and Author's coffee cocktail. The judges assessed the taste, serving and presentation of coffee drinks.
The winners of the III Barmen-Barista Championship are: Andrey Voylochnikov (the 1st place), Alexander Selivanov (the 2nd place) and Victor Kuznetsov (the 3rd place).
Special prizes of VASKO CIS company for the creativity were presented to: Anna Serova, Cofemania barista, Maxim Kirsanov and Sergey Bulakhtin. All participants of the contest received commemorative diplomas and gifts from sponsors.
General sponsor of the contest, VASCO (CIS) presented to the contest Lavazza coffee, Gran Torino vermouth, sambuca Molinari and an aperitif based on natural Xeven juices Professional WEGA coffee machines were provided by the technical partner Profitrade company.
HotelExpo 2006 was held under the support of the Committee for Economic Policy, Entrepreneurship and Tourism of the State Duma of the RF, Moscow Government, Department of the Consumer Market and Services of Moscow Government, Moscow Association of Entrepreneurs, GAO "Moscow", Moscow Culinary Association, Barmen Association of Russia and National Guild of SPA Industry Specialists.
